POSITION SUMMARY: Directs processes and decisions for critical areas related to team member engagement, team member relations, talent acquisition including sourcing and selection strategies, vendor management, and as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) HR business partner. Leads and/or assists in other HR programs and projects such as process improvement, compensation, benefits and performance management. Creates effective business partnerships with leaders at all levels.

LOCATION: Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week.  Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority

Team Member Engagement

  • Conducts periodic team member surveys, analyzes data and makes recommendations to management as appropriate.
  • Conducts focus group sessions to solicit team member input; creates communication feedback process and communication pieces.
Team Member Relations
  • Manages and directs team member relations issues timely, including dispute resolution, conflict management; conducts harassment and discrimination investigations.
  • Partners with next levels of management and Legal to review investigations or performance management decisions with elevated risk to the organization.
  • Routinely reports on trends, evaluates risk and recommends management actions.
  • Maintains positive team member relations by responding to team member questions and concerns, facilitating discussions and escalating issues and engaging additional resources as appropriate.
  • Monitors and advises management team members with progressive discipline and coaching. Reaches agreement for appropriate actions. Escalates for review as appropriate.
  • Engages with managers to review requests for accommodations. Collaborates with the Manager, Health & Safety for guidance on leave policy, benefit impact and/or eligibility. Documents approvals for accommodations. Escalates situations for review as needed.
  • Assists with responses to EEOC charges and employment litigation as guided by Legal.
  • Responds to unemployment claims and represents company in board hearings as required.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
  • Serves as HR business partner to the DEI team.
  • Develops and executes sourcing strategies to leverage resources and develop best practices.
  • Engages community partners to leverage and support BMI strategies for identifying and attracting talent.
  • Analyzes talent acquisition and retention to ensure the Company’s effectiveness; makes recommendations for change as appropriate.
  • As needed, creates reports summarizing diversity composition, and activities; communicates opportunities, initiatives and results to managers and team members.
Talent Acquisition and Management
  • Conducts meetings as needed with departments to discuss turnover, forecast hiring needs, other pertinent topics, and create action plans as appropriate.
  • Participates in talent review meetings with business partners and HR team members to discuss team member performance levels and create action plans as needed for increased performance.
  • Participates in People Planning meetings with business partners, DEI team members and HR team members to discuss projected staffing levels and talent acquisition effectiveness, retention and other pertinent matters.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with external organizations to provide contract, temporary and direct placement support. This includes vendor selection, contract negotiation, outsourcing, supplier management and coordination with Legal and Procurement to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of job fairs and hiring events; attending as needed and leading the creation of recruitment teams to support events.
  • Responsible for the sourcing and staffing of temporary assignment in all offices.
  • Tracks usage and spend with third party staffing agencies and sources of applicant flow (i.e., CareerBuilder, LinkedIn, etc.). Routinely reports usage and explains variances and makes departmental recommendations for contract terminations and renewals. Forecasts budget needs and explains unfavorable variances.
  • Provides oversight of the applicant tracking software and data analysis.
  • Creates applicant flow analysis including number of applicants, source, diversity composition, cost, etc.
  • Prepares reports, including recruitment status, unemployment and others as directed by the management team.
  • Evaluates the applicant to candidate experience from branding to orientation programs to determine the effectiveness and makes recommendations for change.
  • Partners with hiring managers to create effective interview questions and assessments based on the DDI Targeted Selection model.
  • Reviews, approves and escalates background report results as needed.
  • Makes recommendations regarding, and provides oversight of, flexible work arrangements; provides guidance to managers as needed.
  • Manages the Employee Recognition Program.
  • Oversees exit interview process including review of data and unfavorable trends by company, location and/or department.
  • Maintains turnover reports; tracks and analyzes turnover data and causes; provides periodic updates to management and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Extended hours beyond 40 as needed.
  • Flexibility for occasional overnight travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises departmental team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training team members; planning, assigning, directing and ensuring reliability of work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, related field or equivalent professional experience. Continuing education is encouraged.

Experience: Minimum ten years in a progressive HR environment with employee relations, talent acquisition and recruiting experience.

Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Up to date knowledge of talent management best practices.
  • Proficiency in using applicant tracking systems and/or HRIS systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional communication skills for documentation and presentations
  • Proven exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in working with and developing cooperative relationships with team members at all levels.
  • The ability to build and maintain solid relationships with managers and provide a high-touch, high-quality experience for all team members.
  • Experience coordinating diversity recruitment efforts/initiatives.
  • Excellent detail orientation and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures, legal compliance and employment laws.
  • Exceptional follow-through skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak at a professional level. Able to present ideas in an easy to understand and engaging manner.

License(s)/Certifications Preferred: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
