We are BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), a global leader in music rights management, serving as an advocate for the value of music. BMI represents the public performance rights in over 20.6 million musical works from across all genres that are created and owned by more than 1.3 million songwriters, composers and publishers. Our Human Resources team performs an important role in supporting all areas of the organization to contribute in BMI's mission and purpose. POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the development, leadership and administration of all company compensation and employee benefit programs aimed to attract, motivate, and retain team members while adhering to the company’s defined budget. The Director, Total Rewards also evaluates the competitive nature of the current compensation and benefit programs through research, surveys and analysis of trends.
LOCATION:
Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.
DETAILED FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Benefits:
- Oversees day-to-day administration of benefit plans such as medical, dental, life insurance, disability plans, tax-advantaged accounts, retirement savings, wellbeing plans, etc., in accordance with plan documents, benefit policies and procedures; answers team member questions as needed.
- Conducts benefit enrollment meetings during new team member onboarding process.
- Leads annual benefit renewal process by coordinating and participating in meetings with insurance brokers and BMI management team members; participates in renewal analysis and makes recommendations regarding benefit offering and cost share strategy.
- Leads annual benefit enrollment process for active team members and retirees; oversees the creation of benefit communications, including updates, presentations and information packages; coordinates development of benefits materials; schedules benefit enrollment meetings; conducts meetings as needed.
- Creates wellness-related calendar of events to promote team member wellbeing; oversees wellness programs and activities.
- Benchmarks and assesses benefits competitiveness through benefit survey participation.
- Partners with brokers and consultants to benchmark, strategize and design benefit plans.
- Manages relationships between brokers, consultants, benefit vendors, and insurance carriers.
- Creates and provides team member census and benefit election data to third parties as appropriate.
- Ensures accuracy of enrollments, changes and terminations, and ensures automated data file feeds to third party vendors are created and maintained.
- Assists with conducting audits of payroll deductions to ensure accuracy between enrollment election and deduction code.
- Oversees, reconciles and approves processing of monthly billings and preparation of payment for all group plans and other related benefits invoices.
- Reconciles insurance bills; submits to A/P for processing.
- Develops and issues communications to promote participation in, and use of, benefit programs.
- Issues required notifications and communications, such as annual Notice of Creditable Coverage, 401(k) Plan Safe Harbor Notice, Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 & Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act of 1996, IRS annual compensation limits, etc.
- Advises management on applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations that impact benefits, and ensures all plans remain compliant and are administered in accordance with plan.
- Provides information to third party administrators to conduct non-discrimination testing for plans as required.
- Ensures all compliance requirements are maintained, including Form 5500 creation and submission, SAR distribution, HIPAA compliance, etc.
- Updates summary of insurance carriers, policy numbers, and fees and commissions paid.
- Oversees administration of company retirement plans (DC, DB, NQDC and SERP plans) with responsibility for enrollment as appropriate, automated file feeds, vendor reconciliations, and funding authorizations.
- Oversees annual retirement plan audits; interfaces with third-party audit partner; compiles and provides requested information.
- Reviews annual Pension Plan funding notice prepared by third party administrator; ensures distribution as required.
Compensation:
- Develops, implements, administers, and provides guidance on, all company compensation programs including: annual salary planning; merit increases; salary structures; variable pay and other incentive programs to ensure alignment to company goals and budget.
- Conducts compensation audits and pay equity analysis; prepares executive summaries; makes recommendations for pay adjustments as appropriate.
- Completes ad-hoc analysis as needed to provide summaries and/or recommendations to drive business decisions and results.
- Benchmarks and assesses compensation competitiveness through salary survey participation and job evaluation.
- Assesses jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or nonexempt, and appropriate grade level and salary range.
- Collaborates with managers that request a position compensation review and/or promotion or salary adjustment; prepares Internal Compensation Committee (ICC) information packages as needed including recommended change, justification, job grading, as well as internal and external benchmarking.
- Serves as a resource during the recruiting process by providing job analysis, compensation review and recommendations as needed to inform employment offers; also provides guidance on pay range for job postings in states with pay transparency requirements.
- Researches, evaluates, and makes recommendations to management as appropriate to improve or change compensation.
- Advises management on applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations that impact compensation policies, and ensures all plans remain compliant.
- Provides guidance to HR and management on pay decisions, policy and practices, and job evaluations.
- Manages relationships with consultants, administrative partners and legal counsel Conducts compensation training as needed.
Miscellaneous:
- Ensures total rewards market competitiveness by benchmarking and making recommendations to management as appropriate.
- Prepares reports as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business preferred.
Experience: 7 -- 10 years of total rewards experience with compensation and benefits.
License(s)/Certifications: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CBP and/or CCP certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Advanced analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and high attention to detail which result in sound decisions, solutions, and recommendations.
- Strong working knowledgeable of health and welfare benefit plans, qualified and non-qualified retirement benefit plans and compensation.
- Strong presentation skills, and ability to present data and analysis succinctly to HR team members, managers and executives.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Strong HRIS experience and report generation ability.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal wage and hour laws including FLSA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Medicare, HIPAA, Sec. 125, 409A, and social security and DOL requirements.
- Maintains the highest level of confidentiality; ensures discreet handling of all compensation and benefits matters.
- Effective planning and project management skills.
- Ability to communicate with, and establish constructive and informative relationships with, team members at all levels of the organization as well as with consultants, and vendors.

Salary Range:
The specific base salary offered to a successful applicant will be based on individual qualifications, skills, experience and education. The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors. The position may also be eligible for one or more performance-based bonuses.
