POSITION SUMMARY: This role manages the quality assurance for data inputs and distribution processes to ensure an accurate and complete quarterly distribution. This includes managing appropriate quality measures to identify, correct and escalate issues. Essential to this role is the knowledge of various department interdependencies within the distribution supply chain.

LOCATION: Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.

Essential Functions: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Manage the quality assurance activities that occur across the distribution supply chain including the interdependencies within the distribution supply chain to produce the intended distribution.
  • Have an end-to-end understanding of BMI’s distribution policies/methodologies/and processes and serve as a knowledge leader within the company.
  • Set expectations for process controls; monitor adherence and address variances.
  • Monitor changes to BMI License Agreements and ensure that distribution practices are appropriately aligned with any license agreement change. Work across the distribution supply chain to ensure the appropriate on-boarding of new licenses from inception through to distribution, as needed.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to address risks. This includes defining of processes, roles/responsibilities and escalation path.
  • Address any indications of fraud and elevate for further review as needed.
  • Review fluctuations in funds available for distribution and work with Accounting and Licensing to determine appropriateness. This includes the review of financial information provided to BMI. Recommend financial decisions with solid business basis.
  • Based on current system parameters, manage system corrections, adaptations and enhancements based on changing business or technical needs
  • Manage the quality assurance of inputs and processes to ensure correct payments are made to correct affiliates.
  • Assist Performance ID Managers to ensure incoming data is appropriate with correct fields and reasonable accuracy for data. Question and address anomalies; engaging and/or training others as needed.
  • Work with Performance ID Managers to monitor fluctuations in metrics surrounding performance/music usage data to determine appropriateness.
  • Work with International and Royalty accounting to monitor annual fluctuations in metrics surrounding foreign incoming data.
  • Authorize data readiness for distribution consumption.
  • Manage the priorities of performance processing for all distribution sources; based on value and sense of urgency.
  • Propose decisions for distribution sources in instances of missing performance data such as appropriate surrogate sources to minimize delays in our distribution.
  • Provide analysis and information to Royalty Accounting for quarterly distribution funding.
  • Support distribution studies as needed.
  • Manage the monitoring of when data arrives and is ready for consumption.
  • Participate and/or lead quarterly distribution meetings.
  • Provide research or analysis to resolve any escalated distribution inquiries.
  • Create quarterly distribution newsletters for various internal departments.
  • On a as needed basis, perform source level quarterly distribution modeling.
  • Manage updates to the Royalty Payment Manual on by providing timely and appropriate information to Corporate Communication.
  • Work with the various teams in IT to coordinate distribution processing where necessary.
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends relevant to BMI’s business and communicate necessary information with the distribution management team.
  • Maintain awareness of licensing mandates that impact foreign incoming royalties to BMI.
  • Serve on special projects on an as needed basis. This includes distribution re-engineering efforts.
  • Other duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises departmental team members. Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required w/ background in Music Business, Accounting, or similar discipline preferred.
Experience: Minimum five years’ of related experience with Royalties, Music Publishing, Audit or transferable skills as listed below.
Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Advanced-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and general proficiency with other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Understanding of audit/quality assurance principles.
  • Working experience with data mining/BI tools.
  • SQL experience preferred.
  • Analytical, creative, and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Ability to present ideas in an easy to understand and engaging manner.
  • Ability to write business correspondence.
  • Ability to help in project management tasks, with an emphasis on organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, as well as the MS Windows Operating System.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with co-workers, personnel in other departments and affiliates
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
