Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Leads the day-to-day activities of researching and resolving high-volume and priority copyright counterclaims and conflicts to maintain an accurate repertoire and maximize revenue. Leads ongoing and quarterly QA efforts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of work registrations for licensing purposes and timely and accurate distribution processing. This role also assigns team member performance goals, monitors team member productivity, and resolves and escalates issues with the goal to deliver maximum distribution revenue and accurate royalty payments.

LOCATION: Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.

Essential Functions:

  • Prioritize, assign, and monitor team member performance goals.
  • Prepare productivity reports and other KPIs as needed.
  • Support day-to-day activities across the team by answering questions as they arise and addressing team needs.
  • Train and coach team members to improve overall knowledge, quality, and quantity.
  • Participate in continuous process improvement to ensure departmental efficiencies are identified, implemented, and maintained.
Conflict Management
  • Research copyright inquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Determine appropriate actions to resolve counterclaims and conflicts, coordinate system updates, and communicate findings to customers.
  • As applicable, submit updates directly to 3rd party portals.
Quality Assurance
  • Prepare, assign, monitor and review various audit reports to assess the accuracy of individual song registrations and/or catalogs.
  • Identify trends and patterns with song registration issues and recommend solutions for future prevention.
  • Communicate BMI’s repertoire and agreement policies and procedures to internal and external customers.
  • Process various administrative tasks including agreement, live performance, and direct license notifications.
  • Process live performance and direct license notifications, and copyright/royalty inquiries
  • Prepare and submit adjustment requests as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum three (3) years external experience in the music industry, music publishing or copyright administration required.
Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Basic computer navigation skills including Word, Excel and general proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Experience working with data systems, reports, and spreadsheets is strongly desired
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact professionally, both written and verbally, with a diverse population of internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Independent thinker who is self-motivated.
  • Effectively use research skills to solve problems.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Strong typing and proofreading skills.
