Job Description

Represents BMI in dealings with songwriters, composers and publishers worldwide and with the music community at large. Oversees all administrative processes for Music at BMI.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

• Oversees all aspects of songwriter, composer and publisher affiliation with BMI.
• Builds and maintains effective relationships to increase the market share for  Film/TV/Visual Media; intentionally creating a strong BMI presence in Georgia.  Must demonstrate quantitative gains with     market share for the Georgia region.
• Analyzes potential for financial and artistic success of unaffiliated and affiliated BMI songwriters, composers and publishers.
• Proposes and prepares guarantees and advances based on both financial and artistic evaluations of songwriters, composers and publishers.
• Advises BMI on payment policies for classical music, based on current trends in the field of classical music as well as strategies for achieving those goals.
• Interfaces with Corporate Relations concerning all BMI publicity associated with songwriters, composers and publishers and events.
• Interfaces with BMI General Licensing regarding genre-specific issues with the licensing of particular music, and with music licensees regarding BMI licensing policies.
• Writes and presents lectures about BMI and copyright issues relating to music at publisher events, and participates on panels and symposiums in music.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  May directly supervise departmental team members.   If so, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, directing and ensuring reliability of work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum of BS or BA from a four-year accredited University.  Advanced degree in Music (M.M. or PhD) preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years’ related experience from music labels, music publishers, or other such organizations that represent the needs of songwriters.
• Must have extensive contacts in the field of music, including songwriters, composers, publishers, composer representatives, music supervisors, conductors, performers and etc.
• Strong experience with administrative details.
• Minimum of three (3) years of publishing experience, preferred.
• Active in local/national organizations or on boards related to the music industry.
• Ability to analyze songs and music for commercial success
• Working knowledge of the song and music process from conception to hit status
• Working knowledge of music industry trade and professional organizations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office  
• Experience working with and maintaining database systems and reports, as well as word processing and spreadsheets.
• Able to establish a constructive and informative relationship with employees, management, writers and publishers
• Ability to interact professionally with a diverse employee population, and with all levels of staff and management
• Able to work independently and with good judgment
• Attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines
• Strong typing and proofreading skills
