Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for driving and implementing BMI's internal communications strategies across all platforms, with a primary focus on BMI’s intranet. Collaborate closely with BMI’s Human Resources department, DE&I team, senior management, and other internal teams to deliver dynamic written and visual communications for a variety of internal audiences and channels that support BMI’s mission, strategy and culture. In addition, Will write, edit and produce compelling external-facing content for BMI.com, curate and manage a quarterly newsletter, and contribute to various high-level communications projects, as needed. 

LOCATION: New York, NY office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week.  Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.  

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Collaborates with Corporate Communications team members, Human Resources and other departments to develop and implement a comprehensive, engaging and multi-faceted internal communications program. 
  • Manages BMI’s intranet, including planning, writing, producing and posting content on a daily/weekly basis. Oversees additional editorial submissions and serves as key contributor to its content and success. 
  • Creates high quality, compelling content across platforms, i.e. web, email, video, social media, presentations, live events, etc., fostering open communication throughout the organization and reinforcing BMI’s organizational culture, vision and values.  Maintains quality and consistency of work across platforms.
  • Supports AVP, Content by contributing to company’s Annual Report through research, writing and proofreading. 
  • Writes a wide variety of content for BMI.com to promote the music of BMI-affiliated songwriters and composers and support company initiatives. 
  • Curates and manages quarterly newsletter consisting of BMI.com articles. 
  • Manages freelance writers and assigns articles. 
  • Builds strong relationships with internal clients and colleagues at all levels to strengthen and execute successful integrated communications plans.
  • Tracks effectiveness of communications programs and makes recommendations for improvement.  
  • Researches and reports on industry best practices. 
  • Supports crisis communications as needed.
  • Ensures adherence to brand standards and internal policies.  
  • Supports our BMI Core Values and cultivates a culture of diversity and inclusion.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Public Relations or similar field required.
Experience:  Minimum 5 years’ internal and/or external communications experience required.

Skills and Abilities: 
  • Exceptional writing ability and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt writing style to company voice/tone across audiences. 
  • Excellent proofing and editing skills; proficiency with Associated Press Style.
  • Effective and organized project manager.
  • Experience with metrics tracking programs and basic analytics reporting. 
  • Experience with Sharepoint, other CMS platforms as well as general HTML skills, a plus, but not a requirement. 
  • Strong social media skills. 
  • Experience with storytelling through video.
  • Familiarity with graphic and web design programs.
  • Creative and organized problem-solver who can plan and execute on multiple projects independently. 
  • Self-starter and self-motivated working style. 
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is willing to support projects outside of core responsibilities to support team goals.  
  • Ability to receive feedback and quickly and accurately incorporate it.
  • Resourceful, innovative and takes initiative.  
  • Ability to work hours beyond 40 as needed. 
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Office).
Salary Range: 
$80,000.00 - $95,000.00 (USD). The specific base salary offered to a successful applicant will be based on individual qualifications, skills, experience and education.  The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors.  The position may also be eligible for one or more performance-based bonuses.
